Description
Texas Bench Bar — Built for Maximum Bench Press Performance
Top Pick To Dominate The Bench Press
30mm Shaft — 55lbs / 25kg — Handbuilt in Texas Since 1980
The Texas Bench Bar is a specialty barbell designed specifically for bench press training. Made in Texas by Buddy Capps since 1980, this is the original Texas Bench Bar — trusted by powerlifters and bench press specialists nationwide.
Purpose-built for serious pressing, the Texas Bench Bar is engineered to dominate the bench press. With a thicker 30mm shaft for unmatched stiffness, aggressive knurling, and a 4" center knurl, this bar is ideal for high-load, low-rep presses. Its 19.25" loadable sleeves give ample room for heavy plates, while the single knurl mark ensures precise hand placement for every rep. Whether you’re a male or female lifter chasing personal records or training in a commercial or home gym, this bar delivers the stable and predictable lifts required for maximal pressing performance.
Why Bench Press Specialists Trust the Texas Bench Bar
This top Texas Power Bar for bench pressing has earned its reputation through proven performance in serious training facilities. Here is why it wins:
- ✓ 30mm Shaft Diameter: Thicker 190k tensile strength steel shaft made for less flex and greater stability while pressing.
- ✓ 55lbs / 25kg Mass: Extra mass for a more stabilized bench press. The weight feels "dead" in your hands, eliminating jitter.
- ✓ 19.25" Loadable Sleeves: Extended sleeves provide ample room for calibrated plates or massive iron loads for equipped lifting.
- ✓ 4" Center Knurl: Ensures the bar stays centered in the rack and locks into your shirt/chest during the pause.
Best Texas Power Bar for Bench Press Training
Often considered the best Texas Power Bar for bench pressing, this barbell delivers aggressive knurling and specific dimensions optimized for maximum grip security and comfort under heavy pressing loads.
Handbuilt in Texas from 190k+ PSI tensile strength steel, weighing 55 lbs / 25 kg, and measuring 96.50" in length, the Texas Bench Bar provides the stiffness, stability, and durability lifters demand to push their limits. Maintenance-free bronze bushings ensure smooth rotation, making it ideal for high-intensity strength cycles.
Proudly made in the USA, every Texas Bench Bar is handbuilt using American manufacturing standards trusted for over 45 years.
Who This Bar Is For
- Bench press specialists wanting stable & predictable lifts
- Lifters chasing a Bench PR attempt who need zero whip
- Equipped lifters utilizing the 19.50" sleeve length
- Athletes who prefer a thicker 30mm grip to displace pressure on the hand

Commonly Asked Questions
Commonly Asked Questions
Do Texas Power Bars come with a warranty?
All Texas Power Bars products manufactured by Capps Welding Inc. have a lifetime warranty on craftsmanship. Our bars have a limited lifetime warranty against bending for the original owner under normal use. We do not warrant any item that has been abused, neglected or dumped on rack pins, safety bars, straps, boxes et al. Bushings and bearings will wear over time. If a bushing or bearing should fail/break under normal use this is covered under our warranty for 5 years.
Any bar shaft that is bent will be handled on a case by case basis and the replacement will be at the sole discretion of Capps Welding Inc.
The original customer may ship a bar back for inspection after written authorization is provided.
Proudly Made in Texas for over 40 years.
How should I maintain my barbell to ensure it lasts a lifetime?
Wipe down the shaft and sleeves with a dry cloth after training to remove chalk and sweat. For deeper cleaning, use a stiff nylon brush on the knurling. Lightly oil the sleeves every few months if needed.
Can I use chalk, straps, or liquid grip with my bar?
Yes. Chalk, straps, and liquid grip are all safe to use and won’t void your warranty. We recommend brushing excess chalk out of the knurling regularly.
What’s the best way to clean the knurling and sleeves?
Use a stiff nylon brush to loosen chalk and dirt. Avoid wire brushes, as they can damage the finish. For sleeves, wipe with a dry or lightly oiled cloth.
Will my barbell ever need oiling or lubrication?
Our bronze bushings are self-lubricating and require very little maintenance. Occasionally wiping the sleeves with a cloth and a few drops of light oil will keep them moving smoothly.
Are Texas Power Bars safe to store in a garage or outdoors?
Yes, but keep in mind that extreme humidity or rain exposure can cause surface rust. If storing in a garage, occasional cleaning and oiling will help prevent rust. We don’t recommend outdoor storage without protection.
How long will the knurling stay sharp?
Texas Power Bars are known for their aggressive, long-lasting knurling. With regular use and proper care, the knurling will maintain its bite for decades.
Can my barbell handle dropping with bumper plates?
Yes. Texas Power Bars are built to withstand heavy drops with bumper plates, but they are not designed for repeated drops on bare steel plates or on hard surfaces without protective flooring.
Do the sleeves spin, and what type of bushing system do you use?
Yes. All Texas Power Bars use self-lubricating bronze bushings for a reliable, smooth sleeve rotation without the maintenance needs of needle bearings.
Are these bars approved for competition use?
Yes. The Original Texas Power Bar and Texas Deadlift Bar are widely approved and trusted in federations including IPF, USAPL, and many others.
